Oil is derived from the corn germ and is known as corn oil (maize oil) (maize). Refined corn oil is mostly used for cooking, where its high smoke point makes it an excellent frying oil. It is a crucial component of various margarines as well. Compared to the majority of other vegetable oils, corn oil is often less expensive. 1.55 pounds of corn oil (2.8% by weight) are found in one bushel of corn. Agronomists have created high-oil corn varieties, but producers do not always like them because they typically provide lower field yields.
