Millet (Panicum): An Overview
Millet, known scientifically as Panicum, is an herbaceous plant belonging to the grass family. It is a widely cultivated crop due to its hardiness, drought resistance, and heat tolerance. Originally from China, millet was spread to Europe by Asian nomadic tribes.
Primarily, millet is used to produce millet grain, a once-popular food ingredient that has since declined in culinary use. However, it remains essential in agriculture: in its raw form, millet is a key component of poultry feed, and when ground, it is used in intensive animal fattening.
